Tripura Working Journalists Association Forms South District Committee
Sabroom, August 8, 2026:
The South District Committee of the Tripura Working Journalists Association has been formed. A meeting held at the Reviluda Bungalow in Sabroom on Saturday saw the unanimous election of the members of the new district executive committee. Tripura Working Journalists Association President Vijay Pal and State Committee General Secretary Sunil Debnath were present at the meeting. The meeting was presided over by senior journalist Pratap Banik. Swapan Das has been elected President of the newly formed South District Committee. Sajal Kanti Baidya and Pratap Banik have been elected Vice-Presidents. Keshab Debnath has been elected General Secretary, while Prosenjit Baidya and Sukanta Basu have been appointed Joint Secretaries. Bisweshwar Majumdar has been elected Treasurer. The executive committee members include Biswajit, Samir Debnath, Sanjay Murasing, Tapan Roy and Asmita Raychaudhury. The meeting discussed several issues concerning the professional interests of journalists, strengthening unity and mutual cooperation among members, and working collectively to address various problems and demands of journalists in South Tripura. Members of the newly formed committee expressed their commitment to working for the welfare of journalists while upholding the dignity and independence of journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy. The state leadership present at the meeting congratulated the newly elected South District Committee members and called upon them to work together to further strengthen and streamline the activities of the organisation.
